It might surprise you to know that every year I had a dry spell. Every single year. There would always be some conflagration of factors which led to me having around six weeks without a new lay. Usually it happened during the summer time when the heat would drain me and the students were on holiday.
What let me beat those dry spells was a very simple tactic: I simply kept on going. That’s even with all those odd thoughts that popped into my head such as:
- Has social media changed the Game irrevocably?
- Has my SMV taken a notable dip this year and I need to go on a diet?
- Was there a stray hair on my face or an infinitessably small crumb of food in my beard?
When you’re in a dry spell your mind is going to run wild and your first instinct is going to be to try and change something. Unfortunately, it won’t solve your problem. Only time will.
There’s a saying that “every ‘No’ brings you closer to a ‘Yes’” and that saying is true if you persist. It works both ways actually. Just like how every incredible string of results eventually comes to an end, every awful string of results comes to its own end. We live in a world of momentum and the direction and strength of that momentum will massively affect your results. Just like how a stock can be bearish or bullish for a long time until it’s massively oversold or overbought and there’s only one way it can then turn: the opposite.
So next time you’re in a dry spell just remember that eventually it will pass and you’re only one stroke of luck away from going back into that upwards momentum.
