Obsessively Compulsively Daygaming

When I started Daygame, it was the only thing I wanted to think about. I wanted to read all the books. Watch all the videos. Listen to all the podcasts. Of course, I was also getting my sets, week in week out, no questions asked. Even if it was raining or snowing, I still got out there. For me, getting better at Daygame was never a question and I gave myself over to it completely. That’s obsession, and that’s what you need to be one of the top 1%.

To be in that bracket, you need to be someone who can become obsessed with things. You need to have the sheer force of personality to commit to doing something even when results are a long way off. You persist because you know that eventually things will turn in your favour. That’s one reason why Daygame gets a bad wrap and if I’m to be entirely honest, it’s because you need to have a certain brain wiring to be good at it.

I can’t remember where I said this but in a post years ago I said something like:

  • 80% of people hate Daygame and will never enjoy it
  • 19% of people tolerate Daygame as a means to an end
  • 1% of people actually enjoy Daygame

You have to have that obsessive personality to love Daygame and to reach the pinnacle. That’s why I tell people to stop thinking about ROI. If you’re worried about ROI then you will never be part of the 1%. You’re actually thinking too rationally. You’re trying to put together a perfect portfolio of pick-up rather than being irrationally obsessive about one avenue. This is one of those areas where diversification is di-worse-ification. Don’t try to be so smart. Don’t spread your funds far and wide. Instead, pick one egg and watch it closely. Very closely. Do everything in your power to watch that egg as closely as you can. One day it will hatch.

If you need help reaching that 1%, follow the links below. If you’re interested in attending a bootcamp then my first one of the year will be on March 7th and 8th.

Yours unfaithfully,
Thomas Crown

This reminds me of the sort of thing I’ve heard about other fields… like entrepreneurship – I could see Felix Dennis writing this. I could imagine it being true about say Professional Sports as well.

And that’s a hint that this idea is on the right path / right.

    1. Glad it resonates. I think for someone to be truly top tier in a field they have to have the ability to be obsessive and to focus on one thing to the detriment of others. It’s a feature of high dopamine producers and people with autistic/Asperger’s tendencies (high functioning autists/Asperger’s potentially)
